3D SCANNING in Offshore Industry
“The Ballast Water Convention” in China officially came into force; IMO International Maritime Organization "sulfur limit order" cap since January 1, 2020 effective; shipowners and shipping companies in order to save costs and enhance competitiveness, ship transformation to install ballast water management system, desulfurization tower is imperative, three-dimensional laser scanner will help the smooth transformation of ships.
Scanning is performed using a 3D scanner to obtain a point cloud of the ship and reverse modeling. The designer performs design modifications based on the point cloud and reverse model, i.e., design and install a ballast water management system or perform a desulfurization modification design.
Using 3D scanner measurement and then reverse modeling (3D scanning reverse engineering): reduces the quality requirements of measurement personnel; avoids the waste of time caused by rework measurement, etc., and improves measurement efficiency; designers do not need to be physically present to grasp the information in the ship; designers can directly modify the design based on the existing model, reducing the designer's dependence on the drawings.
